2004-03-23 - 10:41 p.m. Things aren't going well. My mom called and my grandpa is really sick. Which I knew, but she told me how sick tonight. Last year, he had colon cancer and luckily they found it early, so that wasn't a huge deal. A few weeks ago, he had surgery for a hernia and things have gone downhill since. They found a mass on his lungs that is taking up 50% of his lung space, and last night he went into pulmonary arrest. He was rushed to the hospital and is now in intesive care on a ventilator. The other 50% of his lungs that are left are filled with fluid and he isn't responding to the drugs that are supposed to clear them. And on top of that, they think he has a heart problem that has gone undetected for quite some time. So even if the mass is cancerous, it comes in second place to his heart condition. The mass is to large to operate on anyway, but his heart doesn't seem to be up for the job of keeping him alive. Why is it that every year I've been in college, someone close to me has died? I think being here is a bad omen. So I'm going home this weekend to be with him. Things aren't fair sometimes. I have always been really close to him and I can't imagine my life without him in it. He's my "father" really.... Honestly, its not fair.
